'Tis the month of May

May is a graceful, beauty-filled month. Spring is in the air, flowers are blooming, birds chirping, lots of green. There’s a hum to the air. It’s weird— you look out into the world, life goes on, it’s clearly spring and just by looking at nature everything should be fine. You can’t see the pandemic in that regard. It’s more of a feeling, an energy coming from the people. The emptiness of the streets, the boarded up shops. The masked pedestrians keeping their distance from one another. The pang of loneliness, tucked away, alone. The knowledge that the people you love and long to see are a heartbeat away but might as be across the country since you can’t go over and see them.

But it’s not good to live with the mentality of I’ll be happy when “X” happens or when this is all over. I need to remain present and grateful which is absolutely possible when in isolation. I just can’t focus on the lack, I need to focus on what I have. And besides, we always have exactly what we need in our fingertips to succeed, one day at a time.
